Once you know the answers to these basic questions, you can determine which is the best electronic book reader for you. Here is a brief overview of the Kindle versus Nook that should give you enough information to answer these questions.

With the battle of the two major ebook readers, you can imagine the prices may continue to fall. At the time of this article you can buy the Kindle from as low as $139 and up depending on the model you want. If you buy the Nook, it starts out at $149 and up depending on the model you are looking at. So not a lot of difference in the price in the Kindle versus Kindle.

You will find the Kindle with a 6" display screen with the exception of the Kindle DX which boasts a 9.7" display screen. The Nook features a 6" display unless you go with the Nook which goes to a 7" display screen. Although these seem like minor differences you must also consider the weight. The Kindle weighs in starting at 8.5 ounces compared to the Nook coming in at 11.6 ounces being their lightest option.

You are in luck if you prefer the E ink screen because both the Kindle and the Nook feature this awesome technology. Although there are many reasons E ink is popular the biggest is the fact it reads like real paper with no glare, so reading outside is just as easy as inside.

If you want to have access to 3G wireless networks, you can with either the Kindle or the Nook. Although this was only originally available on the Kindle, it soon became clear if Nook wanted to compete they had to offer this feature. But...there are differences. With Kindle 3G you have 3G wireless connectivity compliments of Amazon. You don't have to be at a Wi-Fi hotspot and best of all there are no fees. You can download books at anytime from anywhere. As for the Nook, you will have to access the 3G network while at Barnes & Noble or while visiting an AT&T Wi-Fi Hotspot. Really not as convenient, so Kindle wins this round.

If you want to have access to your books and other important data from other wireless devices, you will find this feature on both the Kindle and the Nook. Here is an example of what devices you can use to access this information:

Kindle does have Whispersync technology which allows you to pick up where you left off from one device to another. The Nook does not have this technology to date but like I said, I am sure the competition will march on.

Both electronic book readers allow you to adjust the font size of the content for easier reading which means less eye strain. Both Amazon and Barnes & Noble seem to have really good tech and customer support. Some features you might find useful from the Kindle include:

  • Text to Speech technology
  • Integration of Twitter and Facebook
  • Storage Capacity of up to 3,500 books
  • Battery Life of up to 30 days with wireless turned off
  • Free books-over 1.8 million out of copyright pre 1923 books available

As for the Nook, it does not currently have any text to speech capabilities, no Twitter or Facebook integration, only holds up to 1,500 books, 10 day battery life with wireless turned off and currently only offers a little over 500,000 free books.
